Freemasonry originated in the free masons of England of the 14th century but the organisation we know was born in the 18th century. Even though today’s Freemasonry has new ambitions, it is assumed as a philosophical secret society of solidarity nature, reserved for those who participate in it.
Assuming that the first Portuguese Masonic Lodge was founded by the Marquis of Pombal, we will discover the “City-Temple” filled with Masonic symbolism that he designed, after the great earthquake of 1755. During the tour we will visit the following locations:
- The Columns Pier, doorway into Lisbon
- Commerce Square
- Bairro Alto – Gremio Lusitano
- The fountain of Formosa Street
