The Sado river has one of the largest basins in Portugal and is famous for its rice fields (the largest in Europe), fisheries and scenery. Our proposal is a full day experience that rounds up our favourites choices in the region.
In the morning we will stroll in the historic city centre of Setúbal, ending at the market that holds the reputation for the freshest fish around Lisbon. After we take the ferry across the river to Tróia and, if we are lucky, dolphins can come to greet you. In Tróia we visit one of the most important Roman archaeological sites in Portugal.
We will peak onto what may be one of the most beautiful white sand beaches in Portugal, and probably the most cosmopolitan, where you may not resist a swim. We will visit a winery facing the rice fields and, after lunch, we will visit a unique palafite quay in the Sado river delta and cruise by Álcacer do Sal, one of the most charming clay white towns in Portugal, on our way back.
